Soulpepper's Training Room returns this fall 2024 with a course for actors taught by award-winning Director-Actor Gregory Prest.
Led by acclaimed Soulpepper artist instructors, the Training Room is an opportunity for artists of all levels of professional experience to engage in hands-on, rigorous performance training in a safe and creative environment. Training Room participants will also present their work to members of Soulpepper's artistic leadership team, including Artistic Director Weyni Mengesha.
SCENE STUDY: EARLY MODERN WESTERN CLASSICS
In this scene study course, participants will explore scenes from the great Early Modern Western writers like Ödön von Horváth, Henrik Ibsen, and Tennessee Williams. You will focus on refining your rehearsal techniques and deepening your connection to the text, your instincts, and your scene partner. Through targeted exercises, you will learn specific tools to help you remain present, free, active, and allow space and opportunity to make choices that are authentic and informed.
Over six classes, each participant will have the chance to work on at least two scenes, culminating in a final presentation to invited members of Soulpepper’s artistic leadership team. This workshop is designed to enhance your craft and provide valuable feedback in a collaborative setting.

Gregory was born and raised in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
