One of Canada’s most celebrated cultural institutions wants to share its expertise in communications and storytelling to help strengthen your workplace culture. At Soulpepper, we believe that stories connect us, that they are vital to our understanding, compassion, and knowledge, and that they can motivate us towards social change. We are creative, passionate, and inclusive, instilling the values of belonging, excellence, and innovation in all we do.
Long time Soulpepper artist Derek Boyes has more than 20 years of experience in the corporate training world and has brought together like-minded experts in this field (who also happen to be brilliant actors) to simulate authentic workplace scenarios to allow challenging and fulsome learning.
Derek’s team has successfully coached companies like Hydro 1, Instacart, CBI, Albourne Partners and for several years partnered with one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies on successfully coaching their senior executives and directors to sharpen their messages and launch change in their culture.
Below are some of the services Soulpepper’s Corporate Training Team can provide for your organization:
Time Commitment – 2 hours Number of participants – up to 200
What is it?
Holding a mirror up to corporate culture. Soulpepper uses Forum Theatre, the UNESCO-sanctioned method for creating change, applying theatrical techniques to identify the strengths and challenges facing a company’s workplace, and addressing potentially toxic elements.
What do we do during this workshop?
In advance, Soulpepper will connect with your HR team and then write, cast and produce a live theatre scene between 2 employees of a fictional company that mirrors your organization’s communication concerns. In action, the delegates will be tasked with identifying the intolerable behaviors they have witnessed. Before the scene restarts, the observers will focus on changing the motivation of one of the actors through suggestions for a new approach and eventually become part of the action as they are rotated into the conversation to see if they can embody their own feedback. This has proven to be an entertaining and challenging way for your company’s leaders to practice their approaches to detoxifying and improving relationships in the workplace. This can be a stand-alone experience but it is also a perfect precursor to the Ignite Positive Change workshop that Soulpepper also offers.

Time Commitment – 2 hours Number of participants – 2-12
What is it?
All employees are familiar with the feeling of a conversation they have been dreading or an unproductive relationship they have been avoiding. Ignoring or working around the issue only adds to frustration and toxicity in the workplace. Our coaching and practical preparation models give your company’s leaders the expertise and confidence to Ignite Positive Change in your organization.
What do we do during this workshop?
A half-day workshop will allow participants to identify, research and practice delivering a direct impactful message to stimulate powerful conversations that Ignite Positive Change. It can accommodate up to 12 delegates per day and take place in an environment that would provide a plenary room and 3 break-out rooms.
NOTE: A full day experience adds Corporate Culture Forum Theatre to the session. This has proven to be an entertaining and challenging way for corporate leaders to practice their approaches to improving their work relationships.

Both hilarious and insightful, this workshop offers a pathway to the creative side of the brain and ways to bring this powerful tool to the workplace.

Give your employees an off-site experience they will never forget in the home of the multi award-winning Soulpepper theatre company in Toronto’s beautiful Distillery Historic District. Specifically designed for your company, our coaches will have teams face off against each other in Olympic-style events and delegates will be rewarded for exploring the spontaneous side of their brains. The Soulpepper Corporate Improv workshop was the perfect team building activity to kick off our quarterly team event. The facilitators did an incredible job of incorporating our corporate values and pillars into the session. I was also so impressed with their ability to create a safe space for everyone to let loose and have fun. Finally, I was blown away by the quality of the theatre space with coffee on sight and plenty of natural light. I would recommend this to anyone! If you're considering this for your next corporate offsite, don't hesitate to book!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Derek Boyes and his Soulpepper Theatre Company on two extensive leadership development programs. Their work is a highlight of our experiential programs. Not only is the Forum Theatre methodology an ideal way to “show, not tell,” but it also gets at the nuances of human dynamics and interactions that aren’t possible from any other experiential means. Derek and his troupe are true professional partners and collaborators and I welcome the opportunity to work with them in the future.
