MELISSA KENNEDY
Melissa Kennedy is a member of Sun Life’s International Executive Committee and heads the global legal, compliance, government relations and regulatory affairs functions. With assets under management of over $CAD 1.3 trillion, Sun Life is an international insurance and asset management company serving over 37 million clients and operating in Canada, United States, China, Hong Kong (SAR), UK, Philippines, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bermuda and Ireland. She has a breadth of experience in the financial sector and asset management with expertise in M&A, board governance, and sustainability. Melissa began her career as a litigator in private practice followed by roles as head of the prosecution team at the Ontario Securities Commission; Vice-President Litigation at CIBC; and general counsel at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. A passionate advocate for sustainability and diversity, Melissa has been repeatedly recognized for her work, including General Counsel of the Year by the Canadian General Counsel Awards; Distinguished Alumnus Award by the University of Toronto; one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women by WXN; one of the Most Influential GC in Canada by Chambers & Partners; and Distinguished General Counsel by Directors’ Roundtable. She is also a director on the boards of Dialogue Health Technologies Inc (TSX:CARE) and Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, and serves as President of the University of Toronto Law Alumnae Association.
