Soulpepper Perspectives: Travis Knights
I miss being asleep. I miss going about my daily life, blind to the weight of the current moment. The Black Lives Matter protests have awakened me. I am awake to the North American caste system that I have accepted my whole life. I am awake to my complicity in silently condoning the pain inflicted on those who don’t look like me, pray like me, or love like me. I am consuming books, voraciously educating myself on a history that is profoundly painful to look at. I am changing; searching for balance in order to stay healthy and not be consumed by sadness. While asleep, I would have happily advocated for reforms. Now… I am building the courage to be a revolutionary. This moment isn’t a spectator sport. This moment is offering us a choice. The revolution will not be televised. It is here. It is now.
