Queer Youth Cabaret

Soulpepper’s annual Queer Youth Cabaret is back! On June 20 and 21, eight selected artists will perform short original solo pieces (narrative-based, movement, music/song, drag, comedy, etc.) for live audiences. Leading up to the final showcase, they will receive mentorship and support from established queer artists and arts educators. In addition, each artist will receive a $500 honorarium for their participation in the program.  

Queer Youth Cabaret is an opportunity for 2SLGBTQI+ artists in the early stages of their career to develop their work through a creation unit that includes dramaturgy and mentorship.

IMPORtant Dates

Workshops and Rehearsals: Mondays or Tuesday evenings starting May 12 (no workshop on May 19). Specific dates and times will be decided based on performer availability.

Tech week: June 17 - 19

Public performances: June 20 and June 21 at 8:00 PM 

All rehearsals and program activities will take place in person at Soulpepper.

Introductory Video: Film a 3 minute video telling us a bit about yourself. How do you identify as an artist and as a person? What draws you to live performance?  What artists do you look up to (of any medium)? What is your experience with creating work? What do you hope to gain from participating in the 2025 Queer Youth Cabaret? 

Written proposal for 5-8 minute performance: In 250-300 words, describe the performance you are envisioning.  The piece can be a variety of things, such as narrative-based, movement work, music/song, comedy, drag, burlesque, etc. Be as detailed as possible in your proposal (we understand this can and will change as you develop the piece).

We welcome and encourage applications from all youth who identify as 2SLGBTQI+. If you need assistance or require accommodation during the application or selection process, we will work with you to address your needs. Information related to accommodations will be confidential.
