Peaks Central Asian Film Festival

Peaks Central Asian Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing the rich and diverse cinema of Central Asia, aiming to challenge the misrepresentations and fill in the gaps left by Western Media. It provides a platform for filmmakers from Central Asia to share their stories and connect with a global audience, while also bringing the rich tapestry of Central Asian stories to the forefront.

2024 marked the debut of PEAKS Central Asian Film Festival. Now in its second year, PEAKS invites audiences from Toronto and beyond to immerse themselves in a meticulously curated shorts program. This event is not just a viewing experience but a cultural gathering, offering an array of films that span the diverse landscapes of Central Asia.

Following the short film program, Peaks founder and director Sofia Habib will moderate a discussion with interdisciplinary scholar Guldana Salimjan and director, writer, and film editor Assel Akhmetova.
