Vienna: where vice goes unchecked and laws have gone unenforced for years. Duke Vincentio takes leave and appoints deputy Angelo as his replacement. But Angelo, consumed by trying to restore order, doesn’t realize until he is face-to-face with the truly good Isabella, that he would be the greatest offender. Shakespeare’s “problem play,” the comedy Measure for Measure explores authority, morality, and the nature of true justice, inviting audiences to reflect on the complexities of Isabella’s honest question “To whom should I complain?”
