THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SUPPORT SOULPEPPER

LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY

A gift by Will, known as a bequest, provides you with the opportunity to support Soulpepper once your needs and those of your loved ones have been met.

Funds are usually bequeathed as a:

  • A residual amount—for example, a share or a percentage of your estate; or A specific dollar amount or item

Benefits of making a bequest:

  • You have the use of the asset during your life.
  • A bequest is a tax-effective way of supporting Soulpepper as it reduces taxes owed by your estate.
  • A bequest is revocable and can be modified if your financial circumstances change.

Sample bequest wording:
“To pay to Soulpepper Theatre Company ___% of the residue of my estate [or the sum of $____________.] This gift is to be used for such purposes and designs as deemed appropriate by Soulpepper Theatre Company.

Leave a Legacy at Soulpepper

Many individuals have expressed an interest in arranging a gift to Soulpepper during their estate planning. Soulpepper recognizes those individuals who have chosen to support us through their wills by extending a special invitation to one of its performances and pre-show receptions.

Ken Gingerich has been part of the Soulpepper family since the very beginning. Together with his partner, Michael Oakes, Ken has proudly witnessed Soulpepper’s growth from a fledgling summer troupe into a year-round, multi-faceted theatre company. Ken served as part of the original Advisory Council even before Soulpepper’s first Board of Directors was formed, sharing his considerable expertise in marketing and fundraising with the neophyte company. Ken and Michael are “veterans” of every single Soulpepper season and have generously supported the Company each year since its inception.

Ken and Michael confided that when they sat down to consider what kind of legacy they hoped to leave, Soulpepper came out at the top of the list. Soulpepper will point to this gift as a milestone in its own history – its first charitable bequest- and a vote of confidence from two long-time supporters that the company will thrive far into the future.

Ken and Michael revealed that it was the clear vision and strong values of the company that had kept them engaged for the past ten years and led them to remember Soulpepper in their estate planning. They were particularly pleased by Soulpepper’s commitment to the future – both through artist training and the company’s many youth outreach and access programs. Many people involved with the arts as adults — whether as artists, managers, volunteers or patrons – can point to a moment in their young lives when they were transformed by a play, concert or painting, and from that point forward would always find meaning in the arts. Ken and Michael have followed Soulpepper’s youth programs with interest over the years and knew that their annual contributions helped young people to explore their own creativity and access classical theatre. It seemed a natural step to ensure Soulpepper’s future for these young people with a legacy gift.

Soulpepper has been privileged to share its past with Ken Gingerich and Michael Oakes. We are honoured that they have chosen to entrust us with their legacy and, on behalf of future generations of Soulpepper artists, patrons and youth, we extend our most heartfelt thanks.
